After your purchase, you'll have access to the course- but classes will not be released until Monday, June 6th! This course is a "go-at-your-own-pace" experience. You will login to the course dashboard and all of lessons will be made available. We will cover everything from illustrations and independently working through the writing process- to 3 different genres of writing. 

This camp will be geared towards primary writers (kindergarten- through 2nd grade). If you are incoming or heading to those grades, this camp would be a great fit! 

If you are a parent or caretaker and you're not quite convinced, here are some things to think about: 

1. Writing actually helps students become better readers! Reading at the primary level involves a lot of decoding but writing allows students to gain some encoding skills that will improve their ability to decode! Read more research about that here. 
2. Writing is a pain point for SO many students. Over the past 15 years, I've watched students complain and express how much they hate to write (my son was one of them!) But I've come to learn that many students have writing anxiety because they simply don't know the process that needs to happen. My program changes that! I teach children to internalize the writing process and once that is learned, they are able to independently produce QUALITY pieces of writing. 

3. Writing equips us with communication and thinking skills.  Writing makes our thinking and learning visible and permanent. Writing fosters our ability to explain and refine our ideas to others and ourselves. Writing is a part of our daily lives. 

Writing is powerful and often overlooked or practiced mostly in service of another subject (ex: reading responses). When children are able to master the process of writing- they will be freed up to focus on their purpose and craft for ANY kind of writing. 

By the end of the summer, your child will: 

-Memorize the writing process and be able to explain what needs to happen in order to move from one level to the next. 

-Draw detailed and beautifully crafted illustrations that will support their writing. 

-Learn how to pick ideas, develop them, and execute their writing. 

-Learn strategies to edit and revise their writing pieces. 

-Go through the publishing process and decide how they will share their book (virtual book launch, recorded videos, etc...) with their audience. 

...and most importantly, you can expect that your child will fall in love with writing!

This course will come with a downloadable checklist- but in short, you'll need a ream of plain white paper, some thin-tipped black markers, and some crayons! Everything else will be provided for you to print out and give your writer! 

While there will be some crossover content the first week (with illustrations and the writing process) that work will be condensed into the first week. The last three weeks will be spent discussing how to craft powerful narrative pieces, informative pieces, and persuasive texts! 

You will have unlimited access to this content! For as long as it exists, you will be able to log in and rewatch any videos you'd like!
